Death casts its shadow over every moment of our lives. As the years pass, we will encounter it again and again as we grieve the loss of those we love. One day, we must all face death ourselves. Yet most of us rarely give death a moment's thought.
These talks were given in 2013 at Emmanuel Evangelical Church in North London, and reflect on a range of issues:
The Revd Dr Steve Jeffery is the Minister of Emmanuel Evangelical Church, North London.
He co-authored Pierced for Our Transgressions (IVP), a defence of the doctrine of penal substitutionary atonement, and The Cross (10 Publishing), an introduction to the message of the cross. He has lectured and debated in a variety of settings including universities and conferences in the UK, Europe and America. He has appeared on Premier Christian Radio and BBC Radio 4’s Beyond Belief, and he blogs here. He and his wife Nicole have three children. His other loves include good jazz, strong coffee, cricket, scotch whisky and Jonathan Edwards.
The Revd Steve Hayhow is an Elder at Emmanuel Evangelical Church in North London. He previously served as a Minister, and now works in the telecommunications industry. His interests include music, books, classical and Christian education, and the most recent addition to his family – an enormous dog named Ursa. He is a voracious reader, and blogs here. He and his wife Kris have seven children.
The Revd Dr David Field is an Elder at Emmanuel Evangelical Church, North London. He previously served as a Minister and a theological educator, and is the author of a commentary on Obadiah and many other articles and essays. He now works in executive search, and his interests include the novels of John Buchan, Everton FC and fruit brandy. He is married to Sue, and has three daughters.
